Stillness No. 9
Oil on canvas

My art strives to embody the Tao Te Ching’s meditation on transcendence. I attempt to create visual poetry to capture the essence of this mysterious element for reflection and introspection. In Japanese culture, the concept of "ma" refers to a sense of space and time and is often associated with a feeling of profound emptiness or silence. I borrow this concept of emptiness, and the language of abstract expressionism, inspired particularly by Robert Motherwell's poetics of emotion and shape, which serve as the composition of my abstract work.
