Clear the Sky Over Ukraine, April 2022

Mixed media

I began painting in the style of the 17th and 18th-century masters, using the Jacques Maroger Medium, thought to be the formula that the Dutch and Flemish artists mixed with their glazes and pigments.

Currently, I have been experimenting with more abstract forms of expression, still relying on observation, play of light, contrast, and traditional techniques to breathe life into my work.

My representative painting was created in response to the Russia-Ukraine War, sold at an auction to support Ukrainian soldiers. Its colors evoke the Ukrainian flag as well as raw emotions – anger, desperation and chaos.
