Assemblage of Found Objects
Kay Bailey is a self-taught artist who lives and works in south Arlington with her twin kids and two cats. A government proposal writer by day, she creates wild assemblages in her basement workshop or art quilts and clothing in her attic sewing studio by night. The workshop will be on display for this tour, showing the cluttered workspaces and shelves covered with treasures awaiting their new life as elements of art. There are pieces of glassware waiting to be stacked, painted cicada shells waiting to be frozen in time in epoxy resin, jello molds to lend 50s kitsch, rusty garden tools, wooden boxes, ceramic figurines, toy animals, and 1.5 Dutch wooden shoes. When it is finished, each piece of art gets hung in the backyard galleries before moving on to new owners. There is creativity and delight at every turn, and guests are encouraged to drink it all in!
